Pupillage
Stone Chambers is a leading set of commercial and shipping barristers, specialising in international commercial litigation and arbitration. We pride ourselves on our friendly and approachable nature and believe that we provide an ideal environment for pupillage.
We offer advocacy and advisory services in a broad range of commercial work including in shipping and maritime, international trade and commodities, energy, insurance and re-insurance, banking, international commercial arbitration, civil fraud, employment law, competition and free trade, professional negligence and company and insolvency disputes. A large number of our barristers are recommended by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as leaders in several of these fields.
As of 2012, Stone Chambers has increased its 12 month pupillage award to £60,000, £20,000 of which may be available to draw down during the bar school year, upon request by a forthcoming pupil and at the discretion of the Pupillage Committee.
Pupillage: who should apply?
We seek pupils who combine strong intellectual discipline with commercial flair. The minimum degree is a good 2.1 honours degree. Postgraduate qualifications and legal or commercial experience are an advantage.
We aim to recruit at least one junior tenant every year; pupillages are only offered to those candidates considered to be potential future members of chambers.
Pupillage Programme
Pupils will sit with three different supervisors during pupillage; two during the first six months and one during the second six months. We aim to give our pupils a rounded experience of Chambers' core practice areas.
Pupils will undertake assessed written and advocacy exercises during the course of pupillage.
Pupillage application details
The next deadline for application for pupillage at Stone Chambers will be in January / February 2014 for a 12 month pupillage commencing October 2015.
Applications for third six pupillages should be made in writing to Henry Ellis enclosing a CV.
